NebulaONE: UNM’s General Purpose AI Platform
What is nebulaONE?
nebulaONE is UNM’s official, university-supported Generative AI platform. It is also referred to as the university’s “General Purpose AI Platform.” Currently available to users in UNM’s Beta Testing group, it will roll out to the UNM Community more broadly in the coming year.
At its core, nebulaONE is a secure, centrally managed platform that gives UNM faculty, staff, and students access to powerful AI tools, including access to multiple large language models, without requiring them to navigate the risks, compliance concerns, or costs of using external AI products on their own.
In other words, it is a gateway or AI studio rather than a single chatbot. You log in once with your UNM NetID, and you get access to multiple leading AI models, such as those offered by: GPT, Claude, Meta, etc. The platform provides a central location to explore UNM official agents, that were tailored with our UNM community’s priorities in mind, or build your own personal agents. You can also share personal agents and/or projects you create on the platform with other UNM users.
Why UNM Needs nebulaONE?
- Equal access for all users regardless of ability to pay: UNM's Statement of Values, Ethics, and Principles for AI calls on the university to provide “affordable and meaningful access to AI tools, resources, training, and support that expand opportunities for members of the UNM community.”
- Access multiple models by multiple vendors: you get access to various leading models via a single login without the need to pay multiple subscription fees or have separate login credentials for each platform.
- Data stays under UNM’s control: your data is not used to train AI models. The platform and your data stay inside UNM’s MS Azure tenant.
- One centrally governed platform rather than multiple ungoverned tools: it is one platform governed by rigorous security reviews, access controls, and oversight by UNM IT.
- The platform is grounded in UNM’s AI ethics and principles: it was selected to support UNM’s commitment to trustworthy and sustainable AI use as outlined in UNM's Statement of Values, Ethics, and Principles for Artificial Intelligence.
When can I get access to nebulaONE?
Currently, the platform is in a limited Beta Testing phase, meaning that we are actively working on testing and developing the platform to be ready for all faculty, staff, and students sometime in 2027. Once the testing phase is complete, we will send campus-wide communication on how to access the platform and will offer several training opportunities for all user groups.
